Rathdrum is a growing small town on the Rathdrum Prairie in North Idaho, north of Post Falls and west of Hayden. It combines a historic town center with newer subdivisions and plenty of homes on acreage.
Small-town feel, room to spread out and Twin Lakes nearby.
Twin Lakes: boating, fishing and lake homes a short drive north of town
Room to spread out: acreage, shops and space for horses or big gardens on the prairie
Historic downtown: a small main street with local restaurants and community events
Close to Hayden and Post Falls: shopping and services about 15 minutes away
Town center: older homes and established streets near downtown Rathdrum
Newer subdivisions: many newer neighborhoods around the edges of town
Prairie acreage: rural properties with land on the Rathdrum Prairie
Twin Lakes: lakefront and lake-access homes north of town
Rathdrum has a mix of newer construction, older homes near the town center and rural properties with several acres. Prices vary from one area to the next, and we're happy to pull comparable sales for any street you're curious about.
Rathdrum Mountain: the forested ridge that rises just east of town
Hauser Lake: a quieter lake for boating and fishing about 15 minutes west
Silverwood Theme Park: rides and a water park about 25 minutes north
Downtown Rathdrum has local spots for coffee and dinner, and most bigger shopping trips head to Hayden, Post Falls or Coeur d'Alene, each about 15 to 20 minutes away.
Rathdrum is served by the Lakeland Joint School District, including John Brown and Betty Kiefer elementary schools, Lakeland Middle School and Lakeland High School.
School boundaries can change. We always confirm assigned schools with the district for any home you're considering.
Rathdrum was first called Westwood, after early settler Charles Wesley Wood. In 1881 it was renamed for Rathdrum in County Wicklow, Ireland, the birthplace of local businessman Michael Cowley.
Post Falls and Hayden are about 15 minutes away, Coeur d'Alene about 20 minutes, and downtown Spokane about 40 to 45 minutes.
Well and septic: many rural properties use wells and septic systems. We recommend testing both.
The aquifer: the Rathdrum Prairie sits over the aquifer that supplies water to the region, so septic and land-use rules can apply. We look into it for any property with land.
Washington vs. Idaho: Idaho has a state income tax while Washington does not, and property and sales taxes differ too.
Silverwood Theme Park is about 25 minutes north, Coeur d'Alene's lake and downtown about 20 minutes, and Spirit Lake about 20 minutes north.
